Best Wedding Venues in the Dolomites
Updated: Oct 6
Choosing a wedding venue in the Dolomites is slightly different from choosing one in Florence, Tuscany, or even Lake Como. Here, I would choose the area first and the venue second.
The Dolomites stretch across a large part of northern Italy, and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Alpe di Siusi all create quite different destination wedding experiences.
Accessibility changes. The scenery changes. The villages feel different. Even the type of wedding you can realistically organise changes. So rather than simply listing wedding venues across the Dolomites, I have divided this guide into the four areas I think are most worth considering. For each one, I'll explain what makes it different, how easy it is for guests to reach, and three venues worth putting on your shortlist.
Dolomites Wedding Areas at a Glance
Area | Best For | Getting There | Wedding Style |
Cortina d'Ampezzo | Polished mountain resort - luxury & convenience | Relatively easy | Elegant, luxury |
Val Gardena | Classic Dolomites scenery | Relatively easy from Bolzano | Mountain, romantic, active |
Alta Badia | Food & quiet understated luxury | More remote | Intimate, luxury, foodie |
Alpe di Siusi | Nature & intimacy | Moderate | Outdoor, relaxed, romantic |
Cortina d'Ampezzo
If this is your first time looking at the Dolomites, Cortina is probably the easiest area to understand as a traditional destination wedding location. Rather than being a collection of tiny villages or remote mountain properties, Cortina is an established resort town. You have luxury hotels, restaurants, shops, and plenty of accommodation concentrated around one central destination. Guests can stay in town and enjoy Cortina independently without you having to organise their entire trip.
This makes it particularly attractive for larger groups or weddings where guests are travelling internationally.
It also works beautifully in winter. Cortina has the glamorous ski-resort atmosphere that many couples picture when they imagine a winter wedding in the Italian Alps. But you aren't limited to luxury hotels. One of the things I particularly like about Cortina is that you can base everyone comfortably in town and then take the celebration up into the mountains. That gives you the best of both worlds.
How Easy Is Cortina to Reach?
Cortina isn't next to an international airport, so guests will still need a transfer into the mountains. For many international weddings, Venice is the most practical major airport, followed by an organised transfer to Cortina. Once guests arrive, however, the advantage is that they can stay together around the town rather than being scattered across a large mountain region.
Accessibility: ★★★★☆
Best for: Couples who want the Dolomites without making the entire wedding feel logistically complicated.

Grand Hotel Savoia
If you want a traditional luxury destination wedding setup, Grand Hotel Savoia is one of the strongest options in Cortina. The five-star hotel specifically hosts weddings and private events and offers both indoor and outdoor spaces, including its panoramic 1224 Terrazza. It can also coordinate elements including catering, flowers, music, and guest transportation. What makes it particularly practical is that you aren't asking guests to travel to a remote mountain venue for every part of the celebration. They can stay in Cortina, while you still have the Dolomites surrounding you.
Best for: A polished luxury wedding with everything handled in one place.

Rifugio Faloria

For something completely different, consider Rifugio Faloria. This is the kind of venue that makes getting married in the Dolomites feel genuinely different from getting married anywhere else in Italy.
The rifugio sits above Cortina and can be reached by cable car, with snowmobile access also possible in appropriate conditions. Its event spaces include a large room with a fireplace, restaurant, and panoramic terrace, and the property specifically lists wedding banquets among the events it hosts.
This wouldn't be my choice if you want a conventional ballroom wedding. But for an intimate mountain celebration where the location itself is the experience, it is much more interesting. You just need to plan carefully around lift access, weather, and getting everyone safely back down the mountain.
Best for: A true high-altitude Dolomites wedding.
Hotel de la Poste
Hotel de la Poste gives you another side of Cortina. Rather than a remote mountain lodge or modern resort, this historic hotel sits right in the centre of town. It hosts weddings and private events and has several event spaces, including the large Salon Dolomieu, which the hotel says can accommodate up to 300 people. I like this one for couples who care more about Cortina itself than having every moment of the wedding directly on a mountainside.
Guests can walk around town, restaurants and accommodation are nearby, and you have a much more traditional Italian hotel atmosphere. Best part: it is pet friendly!

Best for: Larger weddings and couples wanting a historic central Cortina setting.
Val Gardena
Val Gardena feels much more classically Dolomites to me. The valley includes Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva di Val Gardena, surrounded by some of the region's most recognisable mountain scenery. There is also a strong Ladin identity here, which gives the destination its own architecture, food and culture rather than feeling like a generic Italian ski resort.
Ortisei is the most obvious base if you want a lively village with good accommodation and easy access to the mountains. Selva sits deeper in the valley and feels even more surrounded by the peaks. I would particularly consider Val Gardena for a summer wedding where you want guests hiking, taking cable cars, having long mountain lunches, and actually experiencing the Dolomites during the wedding weekend.
How Easy Is Val Gardena to Reach?
Val Gardena is one of the more manageable Dolomites areas from South Tyrol. Bolzano Airport is around 40 km away, Innsbruck approximately 120 km, and Verona approximately 190 km. Val Gardena also has organised bus and taxi transfer options from airports and railway hubs.
That makes Bolzano particularly convenient when flight schedules work for your guests. For a larger international group, I would still organise transfers rather than expect everyone to navigate buses and mountain roads independently.
Accessibility: ★★★★☆
Best for: Couples wanting dramatic Dolomites scenery without going extremely remote.
Top Wedding Venues in Val Gardena
Alpin Garden Luxury Maison

Alpin Garden Luxury Maison in Ortisei has something many beautiful mountain hotels don't: it actively positions itself as a wedding venue. Weddings can use its panoramic conservatory with piano, Gourmet Stube restaurant and event spaces, and the hotel helps organise details ranging from flowers and table decorations to the cake.
There is one important detail to know: the hotel welcomes guests aged 14 and over. That could make it fantastic for an adults-focused destination wedding, but obviously unsuitable if lots of younger children are attending.
Best for: Romantic, intimate and mostly adult weddings.
Alpenroyal Grand Hotel
For something grander, Alpenroyal Grand Hotel in Selva di Val Gardena offers a much more complete resort wedding setup. The hotel hosts ceremonies and receptions across indoor and outdoor spaces and its Grand Parc, while offering accommodation, wedding planning, catering, personalised menus, transfers and even next-day brunch arrangements.

Best for: A larger luxury mountain wedding with resort facilities.
Hotel Freina
Hotel Freina is one of the more practical finds in this area. Located in Selva di Val Gardena, it hosts weddings and private events with a panoramic terrace, accommodation and reception spaces for up to 140 people. It also has an in-house event planner. I particularly like that it sits somewhere between the other two options. It isn't trying to be an enormous luxury resort, but it can still handle a proper wedding rather than only a tiny elopement.

Best for: Medium-sized weddings wanting a traditional Alpine hotel atmosphere.

Jimmi Hütte Restaurant
Set high in the mountains between Val Gardena and Alta Badia, Jimmi Hütte is a beautiful option for a more intimate and relaxed Dolomites wedding. The restaurant combines a traditional mountain-hut atmosphere with spectacular panoramic views, making it especially appealing for couples who want the scenery to be the main focus of their celebration.
Best for: Intimate mountain weddings with incredible views and a relaxed Alpine atmosphere.
Alta Badia
Alta Badia is where I would look if your priorities are beautiful mountains, excellent food, and quieter luxury. The main villages include Corvara, San Cassiano, and Colfosco. Compared with Cortina, the atmosphere generally feels less about being seen in a famous resort and more about actually being in the mountains. Food is also a major part of the identity here. That makes Alta Badia especially interesting for couples who imagine their wedding weekend around long dinners, beautiful hotels, and smaller gatherings rather than a huge formal reception.
How Easy Is Alta Badia to Reach?
This is where the trade-off appears. Alta Badia sits deeper inside the Dolomites. The nearest railway station is at Brunico, a little over 30 km away, while official regional information lists Bolzano, Venice, Verona, Treviso and Innsbruck among the airports used to reach the area.
Older regional distance guidance puts Innsbruck at around 150 km and Venice at around 200 km from Alta Badia, although the exact journey varies considerably according to the village and mountain route.
For a destination wedding, I would almost certainly arrange group transportation.
Accessibility: ★★★☆☆
Best for: Couples willing to accept a longer transfer in exchange for a quieter and more immersive mountain destination.

Aman Rosa Alpina
If you're looking at the very top end of the market, Aman Rosa Alpina in San Cassiano is difficult to ignore. The resort reopened under Aman after a major transformation and includes several dining spaces and private-event possibilities.
Its Heritage Room can specifically be transformed into an event space for weddings and special occasions, while its factsheet lists capacity for 104 indoors. There are also smaller private dining spaces for more intimate celebrations.

This is not the rustic mountain-hut version of the Dolomites. It is for couples who want extremely high-end hospitality while still being surrounded by the mountains.
Best for: Ultra-luxury intimate destination weddings.
Hotel La Perla
Hotel La Perla in Corvara might be my favourite all-rounder in Alta Badia. It has a dedicated wedding offering rather than simply being a beautiful hotel that might accept events.
Couples can consider a summer ceremony in the garden, a reception in historic Ciasa Vedla or a celebration at the nearby Corvara Golf Club. Wedding menus are created around Ladin traditions and seasonal ingredients.

That gives you much more flexibility in how the day actually feels.
Best for: Elegant weddings with strong food, local character and a genuine sense of place.

Kolfuschgerhof Mountain Resort

In Colfosco, Kolfuschgerhof Mountain Resort gives you another full-service option. The five-star mountain resort specifically promotes Dolomites weddings and has around 70 rooms and suites, which is useful when you're trying to keep a destination wedding group together. Its team can also assist with organising the celebration.
Compared with Aman Rosa Alpina, this feels more like a traditional luxury Alpine resort wedding.
Best for: Couples wanting guests staying together in a proper mountain resort.
South Tyrol & Alpe di Siusi
This is the area I would choose primarily for the landscape. Alpe di Siusi - or Seiser Alm - is a vast high-altitude plateau where the scenery changes from dramatic valleys to huge open meadows framed by the Dolomites. It feels softer and more romantic than Cortina or Alta Badia. Think green fields, wooden chalets, wildflowers, and mountains in the distance rather than a glamorous ski town. For a summer outdoor wedding, this might actually be the most beautiful of the four. But there is a catch.
How Easy Is Alpe di Siusi to Reach?
Getting to the wider region isn't particularly difficult. Bolzano Airport is only around 31 km from the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm, while Innsbruck is approximately 109 km and Verona around 173 km. Getting onto the plateau itself requires more planning. Private vehicle access to Alpe di Siusi is restricted. The road is generally closed to private traffic after 9:00 a.m. while the cable car is operating, meaning transportation arrangements can become part of the wedding logistics.
That is exactly why the venue matters here. A wedding on the plateau can be extraordinary, but I wouldn't organise one without understanding exactly how every guest will arrive and leave.
Accessibility: ★★☆☆☆
Best for: Couples who prioritise landscape and atmosphere over absolute convenience.
Top Wedding Venues Around Alpe di Siusi
Hotel Tirler – Dolomites Living Hotel

Hotel Tirler immediately stood out because this isn't simply a photogenic hotel that could host a wedding. They have been hosting weddings for years and explicitly offer wedding receptions and accommodation for couples and guests. More importantly, the hotel states that it is licensed to hold civil weddings. That is a significant advantage if you're considering a legal ceremony rather than doing the paperwork separately. And you're actually on Alpe di Siusi, rather than simply looking towards it from a nearby village.
Best for: A genuine meadow-and-mountains Dolomites wedding, particularly if you want a civil ceremony.
Romantik Hotel Turm
For something with more historic character, look at Romantik Hotel Turm in Fiè allo Sciliar. The property sits below the Alpe di Siusi and gives you easier road access while keeping the surrounding mountain atmosphere.
Official Seiser Alm tourism information lists the hotel's restaurant for wedding receptions and other celebrations, with around 40 seats for these occasions. That naturally positions it toward a smaller celebration rather than a huge destination wedding.
Best for: Intimate weddings where food and historic atmosphere matter more than scale.
Hotel Platz
Hotel Platz offers something less polished but very authentic. The hotel is in Bulla, a small village above Ortisei at the foot of Alpe di Siusi, with views towards Seceda and the Odle peaks. It specifically hosts both small civil marriages and larger church weddings, and there is a small village church nearby. I wouldn't choose this over Tirler if your priority is luxury. But if you want a traditional village wedding surrounded by the mountains, it offers a completely different experience - and that's exactly why I think it deserves a place on this list.

Best for: Traditional, relaxed, and less formal Alpine weddings.
Cortina vs Val Gardena vs Alta Badia vs Alpe di Siusi
So, which part of the Dolomites should you actually choose?
Choose Cortina d'Ampezzo if...
You want the easiest luxury destination-wedding experience. It has a proper resort town, lots of accommodation, and enough restaurants and activities that guests can entertain themselves. It is also my first choice of these four for a glamorous winter wedding.
Choose Val Gardena if...
You want what most people imagine when they picture the classic Dolomites. You have beautiful villages, dramatic mountains and excellent access to hiking and cable cars, but enough tourism infrastructure that organising a wedding doesn't become unnecessarily difficult. For me, Val Gardena offers one of the best balances between scenery and practicality.
Choose Alta Badia if...
Food, quiet luxury and atmosphere matter more to you than convenience. I particularly like Alta Badia for a smaller destination wedding where everyone stays for several days, and the experience revolves around incredible meals, mountain scenery, and time together.
Choose Alpe di Siusi if...
Your dream wedding is essentially nature first. The enormous meadows with the Dolomites behind them create a completely different backdrop from the other three areas. It requires more thought around transportation and access, but if you're planning an intimate outdoor celebration, that extra effort may be completely worth it.
Which Dolomites Wedding Area Is Right for You?
If Your Priority Is... | I Would Start With... |
Luxury + easiest guest experience | Cortina d'Ampezzo |
Classic Dolomites scenery | Val Gardena |
Food + understated luxury | Alta Badia |
Alpine meadows + nature | Alpe di Siusi |
Winter wedding | Cortina or Val Gardena |
Small luxury wedding | Alta Badia |
Outdoor summer ceremony | Alpe di Siusi or Val Gardena |
Larger guest list | Cortina or Val Gardena |
High-altitude mountain experience | Cortina or Alpe di Siusi |
There isn't one "best" wedding venue in the Dolomites because these four areas offer genuinely different experiences. That's why I wouldn't begin by scrolling through dozens of hotels. First decide whether you see yourselves in glamorous Cortina, classic Val Gardena, sophisticated Alta Badia or the open landscapes of Alpe di Siusi.
Once you've made that decision, the venue shortlist becomes much easier. And whichever area you choose, pay particularly close attention to transport. In the Dolomites, a beautiful venue that is difficult for 70 guests to reach can completely change the logistics of your wedding day. Sometimes the slightly less dramatic venue in the right location is the much better choice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best area of the Dolomites for a destination wedding?
Cortina d'Ampezzo, Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Alpe di Siusi are all strong choices, but for different reasons. Cortina works particularly well for luxury and convenience, Val Gardena for classic mountain scenery, Alta Badia for food and quieter luxury, and Alpe di Siusi for nature-focused outdoor weddings.
What is the easiest part of the Dolomites for wedding guests to reach?
Val Gardena and the wider Alpe di Siusi region have particularly convenient access to Bolzano. Val Gardena is around 40 km from Bolzano Airport, while the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm lists Bolzano Airport at approximately 31 km away. International flight availability, however, may make a larger airport and organised transfer more practical for some groups.
Where should I have a luxury wedding in the Dolomites?
Cortina has the strongest traditional luxury-resort atmosphere, while Alta Badia is particularly interesting for quieter, high-end hotels and food-focused celebrations. Val Gardena also has several five-star resort options.
Can you legally get married at a Dolomites wedding venue?
Potentially, but don't assume that every beautiful outdoor ceremony location is authorised for a legal civil wedding. Confirm this with the venue and relevant Comune. Some venues specifically have civil-wedding authorisation; Hotel Tirler, for example, states that it is licensed to hold civil weddings.
Are there wedding venues on the mountains themselves?
Yes. Rifugi and hotels on high-altitude plateaus can host celebrations, but access needs much more careful planning than a valley hotel. Rifugio Faloria above Cortina, for example, hosts wedding banquets and can be accessed by cable car.
Is Cortina or Val Gardena better for a wedding?
They offer different experiences. Cortina feels more like an internationally known luxury mountain resort, while Val Gardena has a stronger traditional Alpine and Ladin atmosphere across several villages. For either destination, I would compare guest accessibility, venue style, and the type of wedding weekend you want rather than choosing purely on scenery.
Is Alpe di Siusi difficult for wedding guests to reach?
The wider region is relatively accessible from Bolzano, but access onto the high plateau is controlled. Private cars generally cannot drive onto Alpe di Siusi after 9:00 a.m. while the cable car is operating, so wedding transportation needs to be organised carefully.
Do I need a wedding planner for a Dolomites wedding?
I would strongly consider one, particularly for a destination wedding with international guests. Mountain transport, seasonal closures, cable cars, accommodation, weather backups, and venue access can make the logistics considerably more complicated than a wedding in an Italian city.
